Purpose
This proposal outlines a comprehensive, week-long engagement at Theodore Roosevelt School designed to advance cultural competency among staff, amplify student voice through breakout sessions, and facilitate meaningful dialogue with families regarding educational success.
Grounded in principles of cultural humility, equity, and community-based leadership, the program will examine the multilayered impacts of oppression on student learning and well-being. It will equip all participants, including educators, students, and families—with the tools to embrace excellence, exercise informed advocacy, and embody cultural efficacy within and beyond the school environment.
Cultural Competence
All sessions are designed to affirm Native American, especially Ndee traditions and cultural identity while equipping students with the confidence, leadership, and career readiness to succeed in both Indigenous and global contexts.
Cultural knowledge is essential, but knowledge alone is not enough. To be effective educators, we must also understand how to frame cultural competence and how it integrates into curriculum and instruction. Cultural competence is not a single activity or lesson—it is a way of teaching that:
